ECE 22.06 Helmets on Sale in the UK This Week

MotoDeals Editors · Buying Guides

HJC i71, i91, F71, and RPHA 91 are tagged ECE 22.06 in our UK tracker this week. Plus a £50 GhostBikes 22.06 retro — with caveats.

Why 22.06 is the filter

For new UK/EU road lids, ECE 22.06 is the current bar. 22.05 clearance can still be honest if fit and condition are right — see our 22.06 explainer.

How to read this

HJC is the serious 22.06 cluster this week. Four models, real sizes, 31–41% off.

GhostBikes Royale II at £50 is 22.06 in the title. Treat budget retro shells as “verify the label in photos, try on if you can,” not as a Shoei substitute.

We only flag 22.06 when the feed/listing carries it. Missing tag ≠ illegal; it often means we have not parsed the cert yet. Look at the chinstrap / label yourself.

FAQ

What is ECE 22.06 and why does it matter?

ECE 22.06 is the current safety standard for new road helmets in the UK and EU. It adds rotational and impact tests that the older 22.05 standard did not cover. For a new road lid it is the bar worth filtering on.

Is an ECE 22.05 helmet still OK to buy on clearance?

It can be. A 22.05 helmet on clearance is still a legitimate buy if the fit is right and the shell is in good condition. 22.06 is the newer and stricter standard, so it is the safer default for a new purchase, but 22.05 clearance is not automatically a bad choice.

Why do some helmets have no 22.06 tag on MotoDeals?

We only flag 22.06 when the retailer feed or listing carries it. A missing tag does not mean the helmet is uncertified or illegal — it usually means we have not parsed the certification from that listing yet. Check the chinstrap label and the listing photos yourself.

Is a cheap ECE 22.06 retro helmet as good as a premium one?

No. A budget retro shell carrying a 22.06 mark meets the standard, but it is not a substitute for a premium helmet in fit, finish, noise, or comfort. Verify the label in the listing photos and try it on if you can.
